The mayor of a village of Cantemir district was arrested by NAC officers and anticorruption prosecutors in a case of corruption. He is presumed to would have claimed MDL 200,000 from a local economic agent to favor the tender for the alienation of a lot with total area of approximately 6 hectares.
According to the whistleblower, after winning the piece of land, the mayor would have threatened the trader to cancel the auction if the first doesn’t give him the amount on which they have previously agreed. The economic agent has submitted a complaint to NAC, denouncing demanding bribe.
A criminal investigation for passive corruption was opened on this case. The prosecution actions have documented the discussions between the two, resulting in claiming a reward of MDL 200 000 for winning the aouction.
NAC officers and anticorruption prosecutors documented the transmission of MDL 170 000 to the suspect and arrested him in the act. He was escorted to the NAC for hearings and was detained for 72 hours a few moments ago.
If found guilty, the man faces a punishment of 7 to 15 years in prison with a fine of 8000 to 10,000 conventional units and deprivation of the right to hold certain public positions or to practice certain activities for a period of 10 - 15 years.
