The head of a department of the Border Police was arrested in a corruption case some time ago. The officer is presumed to have claimed USD 9,000 from a driver for not prosecuting him for smuggling.

According to the informer, the border police officer would have extorted the mentioned above amount to re-qualify the criminal offense.

Following the operative investigations, supported by the Security Intelligence Service NAC officers and anticorruption prosecutors accumulated evidence of the reasonable suspicion of having committed a passive corruption by the public official.

A criminal investigation was initiated on this case under art. 324 Penal Code. If found guilty, the man faces up to 10 years in prison. He is in custody for 72 hours at NAC now.
