The filestarted against a Head of department within Railway Moldova reached the Court. The official was arrestedby prosecutors and NAC officers being accused of influence peddling last month.

According to the investigation, he would have extorted $ 1,000 from a citizen in order to be hired as long-distance maintenance man. Arrest in the act occurred on the territory of railway station of Chisinau, in civil servant’s office. The man handed the money voluntarily.

The officialwas in custody for 72 hours at NA, after which he was placed under house arrest. If found guilty, he faces a fine of 500 to 1500 conventional units or imprisonment for up to five years.

The action was supported by anti-corruption prosecutors.
