The Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, convicted a man for committing the crime of influence peddling. The criminal case was initiated in October 2020 by the National Anti-corruption Centre based on two self-reports.

According to the accumulated evidence, in the period 2018-2019, the defendant demanded and received 22,000 euros from 2 men. He claimed to have influence over judges of the Supreme Court of Justice, who had a civil case pending. In exchange for the money received, he promised to obtain a favourable decision in the respective case.

Following the investigation and analysis of the evidence, the court found the defendant guilty of influence peddling, imposing a fine of 300,000 lei.

The court also ordered the confiscation of the amount of 22,000 euros and a mobile phone, seized during the search.

The sentence can be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeal within 15 days.

Note: The person accused of committing a crime shall be presumed innocent until his guilt is established by a final court decision.
