NAC officers and prosecutors are conducting searches in Causeni in a new criminal case on electoral corruption

A resident of Causeni district is being investigated by the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors for committing the crime of electoral corruption by offering goods to induce a voter to exercise their electoral rights in favour of a party candidate registered in the electoral race in the presidential elections.

Currently, the NAC officers are carrying out actions to seize the goods used as the object of the crime, identify the origin of the funds and possible connections of the persons involved with members of organized criminal groups acting in the interests of political formations. Following the criminal investigation actions carried out by the NAC officers under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office, the person involved is to be heard as a suspect and investigated at liberty.

We specify that individuals who offer money to influence the results of an election risk from one to 5 years in prison and a fine of over 50 thousand lei, and to ensure the recovery of the damage, law enforcement agencies may seize the person's assets. At the same time, persons who denounce the illegal acts and cooperate with the criminal investigation body may be released from criminal or minor offense liability.
