A man from the north of the country, detained by NAC and prosecutors in several episodes of influence peddling when issuing driving licenses

The officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and Balti municipal prosecutors have announced the arrest of a man from the north of the country in a case of influence peddling. He is suspected of having claimed and received various sums of money to induce public figures to favour some candidates in the examinations for obtaining driving licenses.

According to the materials of the criminal case, the suspect claimed to have influence over some employees of the Vehicle Registration and Driver Documentation Office in Edineț municipality and that he could convince them, against illicit remuneration, to apply the qualification "admitted" to the applicants for driving licenses to the theoretical and practical tests. During the documentation, several episodes of claiming and receiving financial means were fixed, the claimed amounts varying between 5000 lei and 1500 euros.

On November 20, following operative-investigative and criminal investigation actions, the NAC officers and prosecutors from the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, with the informational support of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), detained the suspect in the act while receiving the last instalment of 20,000 lei of the alleged amount.

The criminal investigation actions were carried out under the procedural leadership of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office.

Every person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is issued.
