The National Anti-corruption Centre has reported several activities, carried out last week on the anti-corruption component, as well as other actions from the spectrum of institutional attributions. Thus, a man from Ștefan Vodă allegedly claimed 1,600 euros from a student of the driving school and received 1,100 euros to influence the members of the examination committee, but he was denounced to the NAC. In another case, a former sales operator of a Chisinau travel agency was searched in an influence peddling case. He allegedly falsified documents and embezzled 433,500 lei from the company. At the same time, the Hîncești Court found two defendants guilty of influence peddling, in a criminal case opened by the NAC in May 2023, setting them a penalty in the form of fines of 300,000 lei and 400,000 lei, respectively. They were taking bribes to facilitate obtaining driving licenses.
Currently, 4 individuals, arrested in the cases initiated by the NAC, are placed in prisons. During the reference period, criminal investigation officers initiated 7 criminal cases and proposed 3 criminal cases for prosecution.
The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) of the NAC seized 6 assets worth over 2.3 million lei, last week, based on the delegations of the General Directorate on Criminal Investigation (GDCI) of the NAC, the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) and the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (AP). Among them are two means of transport and 4 plots of land for construction, seized in a case of passive corruption and human trafficking. At the same time, 1.3 million lei, previously seized, were confirmed by court decision and a freezing order was issued on a bank account worth over one million lei.
In the field of corruption prevention, the Legislation Directorate completed and delivered to the authors 19 expert reports and an opinion on some draft normative acts, last week. Also, 13 judicial expertises were completed, and another 90 expertises are under the management of the specialized department. During the mentioned period, an anti-corruption training was organized for about 70 people. The NAC notifies the completion of 6 operational analyses, the release of 163 integrity records, the reception of 40 calls to the National Anti-corruption Hotline and the registration of 1490 materials in the Centre’s Chancellery.
