The National Anti-corruption Centre has reported new breakthroughs in corruption cases, resulting in the detention of four customs employees and the investigation of two men, suspected of claiming and accepting illicit remuneration in a case of influence peddling. Thus, following the investigations undertaken by the NAC, four employees of the Customs Service were detained, and later placed under house arrest by the court - a decision to be contested by the prosecutors. According to the administered evidence, the accused would have claimed and accepted various sums of money from parcel and passenger carriers operating international flights to and from European Union countries. Two other men from the capital are being investigated by the NAC in a case of influence peddling, the amount of the alleged bribe being 2,600 euros. They would have claimed the mentioned amount, claiming that they would have influence over some employees of the Leuşeni Customs Post and that they could induce them to clear the "Mercedes-Benz C220" model car, registered in Germany, with the application of a 70% exemption from the excise duty established by law for means of transport with an operating term of 7 years.

In the same period, the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency of the NAC applied seizures on various assets worth 3,400,000 lei and issued freezing orders for 50,000 euros. Also, 44,000 lei were taken into administration and were deposited in the treasury accounts of NAC.

NAC officers submitted 20 projects to anti-corruption expertise and sent 10 reports and 7 opinions to the authors. The analytical department completed 4 strategic and 5 operational analyses, and the operational insurance subdivision carried out 14 judicial expertises, the total number of expertises in the procedure being 97.

On the anti-corruption education component, the NAC officers organized a summer camp for young volunteers - an event that brought together speakers from various state institutions and NAC partners who addressed the topic of preventing and combating the phenomenon of corruption, the consequences and the impact of this scourge on society.
