A young man from Bălți reported to the National Anticorruption Hotline of the NAC about the fact that he was forced by two policemen to give them 3000 lei not to be documented for the alleged possession of narcotic substances. According to the whistleblower, the two employees would have asked him to give them money through the "cash by code" transfer system.
Based on the whistleblowing, the NAC officers and anti-corruption prosecutors started a criminal investigation for passive corruption, and the money, in the amount of 3000 lei, was sent under control.
Thus, one of the suspects turned out to be a non-commissioned officer of the Patrol and Rapid Response Battalion (PRRB) within the Chisinau Police Directorate, who was detained on Saturday night, following the receipt of the alleged means. He was placed in the NAC Detention Center for 72 hours, and today he was charged and made statements relevant to the case, admitting his guilt.
The second PRRB employee was called to the NAC today to be informed of the suspect order. He also made statements in the case and admitted his guilt. Both policemen are to be investigated while at large.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office is conducting the criminal investigation.
We remind that every person who has been charged shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
