The police officer from the Complex Investigation Directorate of the National Inspectorate of Investigations (NII) is being investigated for passive corruption by the NAC and Anticorruption Prosecution Office with the operative support of the Personnel Inspection Directorate of the General Police Inspectorate (GPI).

The police officer is suspected of extorting from an economic agent from Chisinau 2000 euros in exchange for stopping criminal prosecution actions. He was caught red-handed, while receiving cash from the economic agent. Following criminal proceedings, the financial means were seized.

If found guilty, the police officer risks up to 10 years in prison, a criminal fine of up to 8000 conventional units and the deprivation of the right to hold office for up to 10 years.

We remind, every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.

The criminal investigation procedure is being exercised by the Anticorruption Prosecution Office.
