    The Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, found a former mayor of Băcioi commune and a councillor of the commune Council guilty of committing passive corruption. The court ordered a prison sentence for a term of 8 years for the defendants, and the preventive measure - preventive arrest, was applied to them, until the sentence becomes final. At the same time, the court ordered the application of a fine of 60,000 lei for the former mayor, and a fine of 100,000 lei for the councillor, with the deprivation of their right to hold public office for a term of 5 years.

    The defendants were ordered to jointly and severally confiscate the sum of 10,000 dollars as money obtained through the crime, as well as the sum of 218,820 lei as the equivalent value of the goods obtained through the crime. The court also partially admitted the civil action filed by the injured party and ordered the collection from the defendants’ account for the benefit of the civil party of the sum of 10,000 dollars as material damage caused by the crime and the sum of 10,000 lei as moral damage.

    To guarantee the execution of the fine, special confiscation and civil action, the seizure of over 2.5 million lei, applied by the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) of the NAC, on the defendants’ assets was maintained.
