Criminal investigation officer – detained after promising a person that he would escape punishment in exchange for 500 euros

On May 19, the officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors from the Cahul Prosecutor's Office conducted searches in a criminal case initiated on May 14, 2025, for acts of passive corruption. The criminal investigation concerns the actions of an employee of a police inspectorate in the south of the country, who, acting as a criminal investigation officer, allegedly demanded 500 euros from a person investigated in a hooliganism case to influence the solution of the criminal case, releasing him from criminal liability, with the imposition of a misdemeanour liability.

During the investigations carried out, several special investigative measures were authorized and carried out, and relevant evidence was obtained that constitutes plausible arguments for establishing the circumstances of the case.

On May 19, 2025, authorized searches were carried out in the office, at home, in the car and on the person concerned.

As a result of these actions, the suspect was detained for 72 hours, and subsequently arrested for 30 days and placed in Penitentiary No. 5 in Cahul.

The criminal investigation is ongoing, and the procedural actions continue to establish all the circumstances of the case.
