Searches in several locations in a corruption case. A customs officer and a customs broker were detained by the NAC and prosecutors

A Customs Service employee, responsible for customs clearance of goods through the internal customs post "Poșta" and a customs broker were detained by the officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre and the prosecutors of the municipality of Chișinău in a systemic corruption case. According to the data obtained, the customs broker, claiming that he has influence over the Customs Service employees and can determine them to take actions contrary to their functions, allegedly demanded and received money that was not due to him in proportions exceeding 100 conventional units.

More precisely, the suspect allegedly promised that he could determine the customs employees to expedite the customs clearance procedure of the goods or, as the case may be, to accept the reduced customs value of the goods and, respectively, the non-payment of customs duties.

To strengthen the evidence, NAC officers are also conducting searches today at the premises of representatives of several economic agents suspected of involvement in acts of corruption of Customs Service employees responsible for customs clearance of goods through the internal customs post "Posta". All criminal investigation actions are taking place under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office.

At the moment, the Customs Service employee and the customs broker are detained for 72 hours and are to be placed in the NAC Detention Centre.
