Searches at the home of a deputy mayor of Orhei. The NAC and prosecutors are conducting actions in a case of illegal financing of the electoral campaign for the position of Bashkan of Gagauzia

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors of Chisinau municipality have announced the conduct of searches in a criminal case, based on the fact of violation of the method of managing electoral funds, illegal financing of electoral competitors, forgery of documents and forgery of statements, which targets the former treasurer designated in the electoral campaign for the election of the Bashkan of Territorial Administrative Unit of Gagauzia, organized in 2023.

According to the criminal investigation, the person responsible for the financial activity of the electoral competitor, currently deputy mayor of the municipality. Orhei, allegedly prepared several forms, in which he entered false data regarding cash donations made by individuals to the electoral competitor, which he signed and presented to a financial institution in the country, but also to the Central Electoral Commission of Gagauzia as authentic, as documents confirming the source of the money.

In these circumstances, the electoral competitor's bank account was replenished with financial means from sources prohibited by law in the amount of 370 thousand lei, which were subsequently used to purchase goods, as well as to pay taxes and services related to the electoral campaign.

At the moment, criminal investigation actions are ongoing, and the person will be heard as a suspect.
