VIDEO// A man from the north of the country, detained by the NAC, for influence peddling. He allegedly received a bribe of over 50,000 lei to obtain a favourable decision

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and the prosecutors of the municipality of Balti have announced the detention of a man from the north of the country in a case of influence peddling, manifested by demanding a bribe of over 50 thousand lei in exchange for influencing public figures to obtain a favourable decision on a criminal case under their management.

According to the evidence administered, the suspect allegedly demanded financial means from the family of a man, suspected of driving while intoxicated, claiming that he had influence over public figures within the Prosecutor's Office and the Drochia Court and that he could determine them to adopt a non-custodial decision in this case. For the alleged corruption of individuals, the intermediary allegedly received in several instalments the amounts of 34,300 lei and 1,000 euros (the equivalent of 19,430 lei).

Thus, on 04.03.2025, the NAC, together with the prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office of the municipality of Balti, conducted searches in the suspect's car and residence, during which financial means and other objects relevant to the case were seized. Following the criminal prosecution, the suspect was detained for 72 hours.

Investigations continue in this case to establish all the persons involved.
