The National Anti-corruption Centre has published the Activity Report for 2024 on the results recorded in the field of combating and preventing corruption

Fighting corruption in the field of public procurement, in the process of managing external funds and combating systemic corruption in the public sector were the priority areas on which the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) focused its activity in 2024. Thus, the institution's efforts were mainly focused on the execution of the established duties and priorities, and the results are reflected in the Activity Report, published today on the institution's website.

According to data reported by the subdivisions, in 2024, investigation officers detected 749 crimes, an increase of 47 % compared to the similar period in 2023, and most crimes were documented in the municipality of Chisinau – 323, followed by the municipality of Bălți – 71 and Soroca – 44. The anti-corruption subdivisions emphasized the disclosure of corruption schemes and cases of systemic corruption, the subjects of which were employees of central authorities and local public administrations, including heads and deputy heads of departments of these structures. Also, the criminal investigation body of the NAC had 1491 cases under management or 36% more than in 2023, and 531 criminal cases were finalized with a proposal to refer to court.

During the reference period, the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) of the NAC received 190 delegations (60% more than in 2023) from different officers to conduct parallel financial investigations. As a result, for 2024, the CARA reported the application of 330 seizures in a total amount of about 1.3 billion lei.

During the reporting period, a total of over 84 thousand materials were registered within the NAC, or 22 percent more than in 2023, of which around 4,000 are citizen appeals - an increase of 25% compared to the previous year.

On the anti-corruption prevention component, the Legislation Directorate conducted 1,349 anti-corruption expertise on draft normative acts, identifying over 2,500 corruption factors. At the same time, institutional assessment and integrity testing were carried out in several public entities, such as the National Road Transport Agency, the City Hall and sector prices of the Chisinau municipality and the State Fiscal Service of the Ministry of Finance. Regarding anti-corruption education, the NAC officers organized 327 anti-corruption trainings attended by a total of 21,345 people.
