Two men from Rezina and Chisinau are being investigated by the NAC and prosecutors for demanding a bribe worth over half a million lei

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and prosecutors from the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office conducted searches this morning at two men from Chisinau and Rezina in a case of influence peddling. They are suspected of demanding a bribe of over half a million lei to influence a court decision.

According to preliminary data, the two individuals allegedly claimed that they had influence over public officials and that they could induce them to intervene to release from criminal liability a person accused of committing human trafficking. For the alleged corruption of the officials, they allegedly demanded 31,000 euros and received 20,000 euros from the interested party – actions documented by the NAC.

Following the searches, carried out by NAC officers and prosecutors, objects and documents important to the criminal case were seized, and the suspects are to be escorted to the NAC headquarters to be questioned as suspects. Both individuals are being investigated at large.
