The Cahul Court, Taraclia headquarters, found a woman guilty of committing the crime of influence peddling and an employee of the Southern Regional Directorate of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs guilty of forgery, in a case investigated by officers of the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC). The court ordered a fine for both, the individual being obliged to pay 150,000 lei, and the MAI employee - 75,000 lei. The Border Police employee was also found guilty of forgery in public documents, but was released from criminal punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. Also, in order to ensure the payment of the fine imposed, the seizure of funds in the amount of 200 dollars, 10,000 lei and 30,400 Russian rubles was maintained.

According to the evidence accumulated over 2 months, the woman, in December 2022, claimed to have influence over some persons within the Border Police and, based on this statement, requested money from a Ukrainian citizen to facilitate his illegal crossing of the border of the Republic of Moldova. She received a total of 100 euros and 200 dollars, to help the Ukrainian citizen legalize his entry and stay in the country. At the same time, she intervened with the Border Police employee, and the latter, as a public figure, falsified public documents and entered erroneous information into the Integrated Information System of the Border Police, regarding the crossing of the state border in the direction of entry into the Republic of Moldova of the Ukrainian citizen through the "Ceadîr-Lunga - Maloiaroslavet-1" crossing point, although he did not cross the state border of the Republic of Moldova, and as a result, his stay on the territory of the Republic of Moldova was legalized.

Although the defendants pleaded not guilty during the trial, which lasted 2 years, the court assessed the evidence administered and established their guilt.

The sentence can be appealed to the Southern Court of Appeal within 15 days.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
