The criminal case targeting the accomplice of two police officers, convicted for corruption to 6 and 5 years and 6 months in prison, respectively, plus fines of 700,000 lei, has been finalized and sent to court, the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office has announced. The man is accused of complicity in two episodes of passive corruption and of committing two episodes of active corruption. The criminal cases were initiated in August 2023 by the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC), later joined into a single procedure.

According to the case materials, the man was the intermediary through whom the funds in the amount of 27,000 lei and 750 euros were transmitted to the two police officers, in order not to document the actions carried out by a group of people involved in illegal trade. Although the police officers did not admit their guilt, on December 3, 2024, the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, convicted them of passive corruption. During the criminal investigation, two more episodes were established in which the accused bribed the police officers for not documenting cases of violation of the Road Traffic Regulations. The accused did not admit his guilt, and the criminal case was sent for examination on the merits to the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters.

Currently, another criminal case is pending in court, regarding him, incriminating him with influencing the magistrates of the Chisinau Court of Appeal through another magistrate. Previously, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison for similar offenses.

The law provides for prison sentences of between 5 and 10 years, with fines of between 300,000 and 400,000 lei, as well as a ban on holding public office for a period of 7 to 10 years and fines of between 25,000 and 75,000 lei.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime shall be presumed innocent until his guilt is established by a final court decision.
