Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, pronounced the sentence in the criminal case initiated in August 2021 by the National Anti-corruption Centre and disjointed in November 2023, which concerns the actions of a man, charged with three offences of influence peddling.

According to the investigations, the defendant, between September and October 2021, pursuing the goal of obtaining the necessary documents for real estate transactions faster without following legal procedures, turned to a real estate agent who allegedly had influence on some civil servants within the Cadastre Office. Thus, in exchange for the amount of 500 lei per act, the real estate agent obtained the necessary documents for the defendant, such as the registration of the property right and the valuation of the real estate, without the applicant being physically present.

The criminal prosecution lasted 10 months - during which the defendant did not admit his guilt, and the trial of the case lasted only 7 months (the case being examined by a specialized judge).

As a result of the analysis of the administered evidence, the court found the defendant guilty of committing three crimes of influence peddling, establishing a punishment in the form of a fine in the amount of 175,000 lei, with the deprivation of the right to exercise activities related to the perfecting official documents for a period of 2 years.

At the same time, the special confiscation was applied by collecting from the defendant and transferring to the benefit of the state the equivalent of the amount of 6700 lei, used to commit the crimes.

The sentence can be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeal, within 15 days.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
