NAC conducted searches in Ialoveni and in the capital at four transport operators, targeted in a passive and active corruption investigation

Several searches were carried out today by the NAC and prosecutors in a case of active and passive corruption in which the actions of some transport administrators are being investigated. They are suspected of illegally transporting tobacco products and other goods by evading customs procedures.
According the materials of the case, it was established that several transport operators together with other unknown persons, under the pretext of carrying out the activity of transporting passengers, goods and unaccompanied parcels, illegally transport tobacco products and other goods, by bypassing customs control and not paying the mandatory taxes import/export of these products. For the implementation of this scheme, the suspects would have sent financial means to public persons, who in thier turn accepted the illicit remunerations – actions investigated in the same file.
Currently, the National Anti-corruption Centre is carrying out actions in order to establish and document all the persons involved in the mentioned illegal actions and to bring them to criminal responsibility. In total, there are 15 searches at the offices, homes and cars of the suspects, and at the moment, three people have the status of a suspect and are being investigated in a state of freedom.
The actions take place under the leadership of the prosecutors from the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office.
We remind that every person shall be presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is issued, and investigations in this case continue.
