Three people were detained this morning following searches carried out by the NAC and prosecutors in two cases of passive corruption and influence peddling. The criminal investigation actions targeted officials from the Territorial Military Centre (TMC) of the ATU Gagauzia and an intermediary. They are suspected of having received various sums of money from persons subject to recruitment in the armed forces of the Republic of Moldova in order to release them from the obligation to complete military service.
According to the materials collected by the NAC, the intermediary would have acted jointly with the head of the human resources section of the TMC of Gagauzia, who in turn claimed that he would have influence on the head of the incorporation and mobilization section of the TMC, whom he could induce to undertake actions contrary to his attributions service. Thus, they would have claimed and received sums of up to 1000 euros in order not to start the procedure of incorporation into the National Army or not to hold them criminally liable for evading military service within the deadline.
In the process of documentation, several episodes of release or deferment from satisfying military service, as well as non-criminal liability for evasion - actions taken against different amounts of money - were fixed.
Following the searches carried out by the NAC, the head of the Incorporation and Mobilization Section of TMC Gagauzia and the head of the Human Resources Section of the same centre, as well as the intermediary, were detained for 72 hours. The actions continue under the leadership of the prosecutors of the municipality of Cahul.
We remind that every person shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law.
