An employee of the National Agency for Food Safety (NAFS) is being investigated by the NAC officers, under the leadership of Balti municipal prosecutors, in a case of passive corruption, being suspected of systematically collecting illegal payments from various economic agents to facilitate the transit of goods through the border crossing point Criva - Mămăliga.
According to investigations of the NAC, the NAFS employee would have claimed and accepted sums of money or goods from transporters of animal and vegetable products in order not to subject them to sanitary-veterinary checks. Aided by suspicion, transporters avoided control over compliance with sanitary-veterinary rules, food safety requirements and their quality in the process of importing animals, products and raw material of animal origin subject to sanitary-veterinary supervision.
Following the searches, carried out at the sanitary-veterinary point of the NAFS, located at the Criva - Mămăliga border crossing point, at the home and in the suspect's car, money, information carriers and records of imported goods were found and seized.
Currently, criminal investigation actions are taking place, under the procedural direction of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, to document all aspects of the case, and the suspect is being investigated in a state of freedom.
We note that every person shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final and irrevocable court decision.
