A resident of the capital, detained by NAC officers, after allegedly demanding a bribe of over one million lei

A man from Chisinau was detained by the NAC officers and prosecutors from the Chisinau Municipal Prosecution Office in an influence peddling case in which the object of the alleged bribe is 1,150,000 lei. According to the investigated facts, the suspect, claiming to have influence over some public officials whom he could convince to adopt a favourable decision in a tax evasion case, allegedly demanded from a person the sum of 35,000 Euros (the equivalent of over 670,000 lei), and after receiving part of it, he would still claim the difference in money.

At the same time, the same person, claiming to have influence over some people in close relations with some public officials from the Chisinau City Hall, allegedly claimed and received financial means in the amount of 25,000 Euros (the equivalent of about 480,000 lei) for the completion of permissive acts in order to change the urban planning zone of a plot of land in the municipality of Chisinau.

Following the criminal investigation actions, carried out by the NAC officers under the procedural direction of the Chisinau Municipal Prosecution Office, the influence peddler was detained for a period of 72 hours and placed in the NAC Detention Centre, objects and documents relevant to the case being seized following the searches.
