An employee of the National Public Security Inspectorate in the north of the country is under criminal investigation by the National Anticorruption Center for influence peddling. The police officer allegedly demanded 15,000 lei from a resident of Singerei district to relieve him of responsibility in a case of drunk driving.
According to the materials of the case, the policeman allegedly claimed that he had influence over some public figures from the Singerei Police Inspectorate, in whose management were the materials on the fact of drink-driving, and that he could induce them to examine the case favorably with the application of the punishment under form of unpaid work for the benefit of the community. Also, the suspect allegedly promised that he could convince them to release the car, picked up and placed at the specialized parking lot, with its return to the owner. For his services, the policeman claimed and received 15,000 lei from the whistleblower.
In order to strengthen the evidence, on 19.12.2023, the employees of the General Territorial Directorate North (GTD) of the NAC and the prosecutors of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office conducted searches at the residence of the employee of the Northern Patrol Directorate of the National Public Security Inspectorate. He is currently being investigated in the state of freedom.
