Three employees of the Customs Service and a broker were detained by the NAC and AP in corruption cases

The interim head of the Chisinau Customs Post, a head of the Chisinau Customs Office, a chief inspector and a customs broker were detained this morning in criminal cases, initiated on corruption. They are suspected of having claimed and received financial means from economic agents to organize the reduction of the value of the goods introduced into the Republic of Moldova.

According to the reporting document, the group of people involved in acts of corruption include both officials of the Customs Service, brokers and economic agents, and the sums claimed for granting various facilities to some economic agents would amount to 6 000 euro.

As part of the criminal investigation and special investigative measures, several episodes were found in which the value of the goods entered at customs was reduced by up to 50 percent, and the customs official collected a commission of 10-15% from the unpaid taxes.

Today, the NAC officers and anti-corruption prosecutors conducted 40 searches targeting customs employees and economic agents. As a result, three CS employees and a customs officer were detained for 72 hours. Currently, the actions on the case are ongoing and aim to establish all the circumstances and identify the entire circle of people involved.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office is conducting the criminal investigation.
