The legislature approved the National Program for Criminal Assets Recovery for the years 2023-2027

The legislature approved the National Program for Criminal Assets Recovery for the years 2023-2027 and the Action Plan regarding its implementation. That decision was voted by 59 Members of Parliament.

The purpose of the program is to increase the efficiency of the national criminal asset recovery system, improve communication, collaboration and coordination between the responsible authorities and their counterparts abroad. The draft program comprises nine chapters, including situation analysis, objectives, expected impact, implementation costs, risks, responsible authorities and institutions.

According to the president of the National Security, Defense and Public Order Commission, Lilian Carp, the problem of recovering criminal assets is a priority in the current public and institutional agenda at the international and European level. However, the legislative changes made over the years did not cover all aspects that would improve the system of criminal assets recovery in the Republic of Moldova and make it more efficient. With the implementation of the planned normative, functional and institution-building actions, our country will obtain more impact indicators. Among the most important are the increase in the degree of identification and assets recovery originating from corruption crimes, from acts related to corruption and from other criminal activities, seized and confiscated, as well as the increase in the execution rate of confiscation orders ordered in criminal matters, and in the latter - increasing revenues in the state budget.

"To strengthen our capabilities in identifying and recovering criminal assets, good inter-institutional cooperation is absolutely necessary, but also effective collaboration with similar institutions from other states, especially from the EU. At the same time, we also want to establish a social impact - part of the recovered money will be redirected to the social needs of the country", stated the director of the National Anticorruption Center, Iulian Rusu.
