Chief of Border Police Service was datained by the NAC officers and anticorruption prosecutors within the case of influence peddling. The police officer is suspected of claiming 12 000 euro from several citizens to help with cases related to car theft in Romania.

According to the whistleblowers, the policeman alleged that he has influence over some public persons in the prosecutor's office and that he could determine them not to respond to the materials, coming from the Romanian law institutions, where they would be involved in car thefts. For 12,000 euros, the chief of the Motor Vehicle Service would have promised them that he could solve the problem so that they would not be held liable.

The money transmission took place under the control of the NAC and anticorruption prosecutors in two tranches - 8000 euro and 4000 euro. During the last transmission, the policeman was detained flagrantly and escorted to the NAC headquarters, where he was placed in the Detention Center for 72 hours.

A criminal prosecution was initiated for influence peddling, if he is found guilty, the man of law risks up to 6 years of imprisonment or a fine ranging from 3000 to 4000 conventional units.

We remind, that every person is presumed to be innocent unil the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.

The criminal prosecution is carried out by the Office of the Anticorruption Prosecutor. At the same time, the Ministry of the Internal Affairs ensures the operational support to the NAC for documenting the involvement of the Police employees in the mentioned crime.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 40 policemen have been criminally investigated, being suspected of committing corruption, which is 57 percent more than in the similar period of 2018.
